Welcome to what’s on in Brisbane in April! We’ve got lots of cool things on in the city this month. For starters, there are plenty of free events, such as cinema sessions throughout the city, fitness programs, family bike rides, and the monthly free music day in Roma Street Parklands. There’s also the International Cake Show in town, the Brisbane Comedy Festival, and a sunflower festival, amongst loads of other things.

The Sunset Cinema
- What – an outdoor experience with a headphone sound option and a licensed snack bar. You can bring your own food but not alcohol, which must be purchased at the bar.

The Gathering
- What – a range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural events. Check out the Brisbane City Council website to find out more.

Mudunama Kundana Wandaraba Jarribirri Judy Watson
- What – artist Judy Watson showcases 130 pieces of her art which include print, sculpture and video, ‘channeling the stories of her family’s Waanyi Country in north-west Queensland’.
- Where – Queensland Art Gallery.
- When – all of April.
Felons Cinema Sessions
- What – free, family-friendly movies on at Felons! Snacks and beer can be delivered directly to your seat.
- Where – Felons Brewing Co., Brisbane City.
- When – Tuesday nights, at 7pm, throughout April.
Rail Through Time – A Kids’ Adventure
- What – school holiday fun at the Queensland Rail Workshops on ‘transport, communication, jobs and fashion’, which is tailored to the under 13 crowd.
- Where – Queensland Museum Rail Workshops, Ipswich.
- When – April 1 – April 14.
Feel Good Program
- What – a range of free fitness classes in South Bank. Check out the programs here for more info.
- Where – Southbank Parklands.

Top Stroke, Easter Mini Golf.
- What – Easter-themed mini golf featuring a jumping castle and special easter bunny guest appearance.
- Where – Oxley Golf Club.
- When – April 1 – April 15.
The Dark Side of the Moon Planetarium Experience
- What – a celebration of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album, which turned 50 this March. The event includes the album’s music accompanied by jaw-dropping planetary visuals and virtual technology.
- Where – Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium.
- When – all of April.
Hologram Zoo
- What – a family-friendly zoo featuring animals made out of holographic projections from laser light. Here animals tower alongside you and ‘fly off the wall and all around you’!
- Where – Cannon Hill, Shop 4, 1177 Wynnum Road.

Beauty and the Beast: The Musical Pre-Theatre Dining at Bacchus
- What – Beauty and the Beast pre-show-themed dinner menu, featuring three courses and a dessert sculpted into a rose which looks like the real deal. $89 per person.

- When – April 1 – April 20.
Brisbane Cycling Festival
- What – a free pop-up festival at the Brisbane Showgrounds for bicycle riders/lovers of all ages.

Indigo Isuta Soirée: A High Tea Affair
- What – here ‘Easter gets a spin’ off Japan, with this Japanese high-tea menu that includes delights such as yuzu custard bunny teacups, matcha macarons, green tea yuzu tiramisu and a chili chocolate-infused umeshu cocktail.

Park Play
- What – a free kids program in Victoria Park featuring ‘workshops and curated activities’ in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The Smile Station
- What – an interactive place where people of all ages can connect while practicing mindfulness.

Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach
- What – a live, theatrical performance of Roald Dahl’s famous book.
- Where – Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Ever After High Tea: Easter Edition
- What – high tea that takes its inspiration from fairy tales – featuring a fairy tale cookie cake book that you can paint before you devour it, and Easter-themed cocktails.

Imagination Children’s Festival
- What – a family-friendly festival fostering ‘vibrancy, imagination and adventure’. The event is pet and alcohol-free.
- Where – Kingston Factory Butter Precinct, Kingston.

Pups and Pints
- What – Yeerongpilly’ Slipstream Brewing Company has joined forces with Haven Animal Rescue Inc. for a dog-friendly event, of course, and true to its name, it features pints of beer, along with charcuterie boards.

David Walliams’ RATBURGER
- What – a play based on the novel by David Walliams aimed at children. Approximate run time is 60 minutes.

Hopelessly Devoted: A Celebration of Olivia Newton-John
- What – hosted by ‘internationally acclaimed drag star, Courtney Act, the event is a tribute to Oliva Newton-John featuring the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and guests such as David Campbell, Jess Hitchcock, Georgina Hopson and Christie Whelan Browne, who will perform alongside the orchestra.

Rueben Tsang in Concert
- What – Internationally renowned pianist Rueben Tsang performs works by Scarlatti, Fauré, Brahms and Mozart.

C’est Bon and Beyond: A French Affair
- What – attendees, get set to experience four snacks and four courses created by renowned chef Scott Pickett and Group Executive Chef Stu McVeigh. The night ‘draws inspiration from the rich history of French gastronomy’, while incorporating classic French techniques ‘innovative twists and locally sourced ingredients’.

- What – a live kid’s show involving ‘science, circus, puppetry and plenty of imagination’.

- What – brought to you by the Brisbane City Council, Curbside Carnies is a free family-friendly featuring a world of music, circus and fun.

International Cake Show, Australia
- What – ‘Australia’s largest cake, cookie and sugar art show’.

- What – on the second Saturday of every month, Hamilton is showcasing 20 vintage clothing stores at its Portside Wharf Markets for keen shoppers.

Big Family Ride
- What – a Sunday ride through Brisbane City that’s friendly for young and new riders. It’s a 10km ride that’ raising funds for The Common Good.

Ocean Film Festival World Tour
- What – for four nights this April, the silver screen in Brisbane Powerhouse will feature ‘a cinematic feast of water-focused wonders’.

Airwaves: 100 Years of Radio
- What – a celebration of the history of radio over the last 100 years, in an event that is ‘part opera, part documentary and part entertainment’.

Colossus by Stephanie Lake Co.
- What – internationally renowned Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake returns to Brisbane to showcase her newest work, Colossus. The event features 50 dancers and music performed by legendary composer, Robin Fox.

The Underdogs Show Unmuzzled
- What – a live comedy musical featuring ‘music, laughter, and tail-wagging fun!’

Run Army
- What – a 10 & 5 km fun run and walk that ‘promotes resilience, health and wellbeing’. The event supports the Australian Army and Queensland Police, Fire and Ambulance services.

Brisbane Bel Canto – Opera Queensland
- What – a festival running over one week that incorporates Italian Opera and a celebration of song.

Rosie Batty in Conversation
- What – Australian domestic violence campaigner and 2015 Australian of the year Rosie Batty is in conversation with Sue Smethhurst.
- Where – Brisbane Powerhouse.

The Brisbane Comedy Festival
- What – over 100 comedy artists are performing across the Brisbane Powerhouse, The Tivoli, The Princess Theatre and the Fortitude Music Hall over the last four days of the month. Find out more about the lineup here.

- What – a new music festival is coming to Bribie Island at the end of this month, featuring Deep Purple, Blonde, Alice Cooper, and Placebo amongst many others.
